FORTY-FIVE is 330 days away and I’m actually looking forward to it. I like my forties. I feel like I figured one or two things out. I lead a very good life, which I’m extremely grateful for. In fact, I have a gratitude journal in which I write, before I go to bed, 10 things I’m grateful for, 3 people who inspire me, and my intention for the next day.

My wife actually gave me this idea when we first started dating, and it’s such a wonderful thing to have because it serves as a reminder that no matter what happens in life, especially the upsets, look at all these things I’m grateful for. I highly recommend doing this. It can really change one’s perspective.

But that’s a whole other topic for later on. Let me get to it— the point of this blog.

I have a bunch of things I want to accomplish this year, from personal physical goals, to career and financial ones. As a life and career coach for others, I teach that success is merely a formula that anyone can learn, albeit hard to live by. Success in anything— career, relationships, health, friggin’ anything and everything— all comes down to setting goals and working this formula every day. And you’re in luck because I’m going to give you the formula:

SUCCESS = DECISION + ACTION + COMMITMENT

That’s it. That’s the whole thing right there. You might be surprised to know  that most people get hung up on the first one. How often do you go back and forth, even over the most meaningless decisions, like what to eat for dinner, or what movie to see, or whatever? Now what about big life choices? Well, that could take forever! Then when and if we decide, we may stick things out for a little while, but maybe we quit when things get too rough or hard. So there’s no real commitment.

Now, I’m pretty good at this formula, but I am human, so I struggle with things just as much as the next person. This is why I’m publicly challenging myself to achieve some major goals by the time I turn 45 on November 3oth.

Keep in mind, I did just launch a startup, so my priority is to make this business über-successful, but here’s a list of other things I want to accomplish, which I’ll be blogging about in more detail:

  • Get PimpMyPooch funded by Angel Investors by March 1st (main priority)
  • Get this business in serious revenue
  • Get to 165 lbs. with 8% body fat
  • Learn Italian
  • Learn Guitar
  • Sell a screenplay
  • Direct the pilot episode to a web series idea I’ve had for the past year
  • Create more art (drawings and photos)
  • Write my second book

This is a lot, I know. And I’ll go more into goal setting and scheduling, but let’s call this the “Master List.” As the year progresses, certain things will take priority (although PimpMyPooch is always the number one priority) and other things will fall off the list and be postponed for another time. Or maybe I’ll do it all. I do drink very string coffee.

I’ll post every Monday at 11am, but I’ll be posting again this Friday about my fitness goals because I will have just  joined a gym and taken my “before photos.”
